Can't Access Network Drives After Disconnecting from VPN

Rate this question

Question

trump2016

I have an issue where I lose access to network drives at work after disconnecting from the TG VPN.

To fix the issue, I need to do a network reset (Windows 10, Settings->Network & Internet->Status->Network reset).

I suspect it has to do with changing DNS settings.

Does anyone else run into this issue?

Sounds like the kill switch may be the culprit, as it will disable your main network device after disconnecting from TorGuard. Setting up static IP information instead of using DHCP from your network devices might help:

  1. Right click the network icon in your taskbar and click "Open network and sharing center"
  2. Click "Change Network Adapters" top left.
  3. Right click your main network connection, click status, then click details.
  4. Keep the details screen open and then right click your network device > select properties
  5. Open Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and copy the information from the details window.
  6. Now you should have Static IP setup instead of DHCP.
