Ubuntu 14.04 and iptables marking

Rate this question

Does anyone have a working vpn setup with Ubuntu 14.04 and iptables marking? This allows you to mark packets so that only certain users will use the vpn tunnel. There are several guides out there that I have tried that are not distro or version specific that have not worked for me. Newer versions of the linux kernel and IP stack have different options and requirements for this to work.

I have worked around this by dedicating a whole raspberry pi as a vpn server but would rather use my main server, but it is doing a lot of stuff that needs to bypass the vpn.

Thanks for any advice.
