Question

Hi,

Does anyone have any information about how to set up OpenELEC with this vpn? There is a vpn setup page where you can add an OpenVPN setup, but I don't know what to put in the fields.

Thank you,

Sybs

Hi,

I managed to finally get this working using instructions from a variety of sources. Thanks gvasco for the links.

I followed the guide on this page:

http://brianhornsby.com/blog/#how-to-setup-your-vpn-client

His OpenVPN controller addon makes it very easy to select which exit node to connect to.

However, there are several concerns with these instructions:

  1. There's no crl-verify line in the TG ovpn files, so you can ignore that bit.
  2. As of OpenELEC 6.0, the openvpn addon does not come installed by default. This needs to be manually added via the OpenELEC Unofficial addon repository
  3. There's no vpn-config folder in the file system so this must be created, but you could put the files anywhere you want I suppose.
  4. Install his repository to get the OpenVPN controller addon. He says to install just the addon but using the repo is better as it will keep it up to date.
  5. The TG ovpn files need fixed before doing these instructions. They have a mixture of windows and linux line endings. You have to set all the files to have linux EOL. You can do this in Notepad++ by clicking on Edit > EOL Conversion > UNIX/OSX Format. This needs done for all the ovpn files and the pass.txt file that you create.
  6. The pass.txt file needs to have the first line as the username, the second line as the password, then a third blank line.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and to the service. I'm really interested in this as well but I see that the OP hasn't followed up on this query. I'm hopping that by following up on it It might be answered. At the bottom I'll provide links to pictures with the openvpn set-up window for openelec.

Hi,

I'd also be interested in utilising my Torguard VPN service on my 2 Openelec HTPC systems - so I'm also looking for some help.

Thanks,
