VPN and Torrent Proxy together = slow speed

Rate this question

Question

Guest

Hello,

When I use the Torrent Proxy by itself with Vuze, everything is fine, I get the same speed as before, etc. But when I turn on the VPN, all the torrents disconnect and reconnect and I get lousy speed, and SOCKET error, etc.

I am sure there is a way to use VPN and Torrent Proxy together, I can't find it in the FAQ or forum archive.

Hey guys - if you want to use VPN and proxy together, make sure both VPN an proxy are connected to the same location, say set Canada as socks5 and connect to Canada profile on VPN.

This will work with Canada, Netherlands, Iceland, Romania, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden.

thanks, you are right, of course. That's the missing link, I was getting mixed result. One thing I would suggest when using Torguard Proxy is to set the server location in your BT client is NOT to use the "Fastest Proxy Available" option and picked your country of choice. I chose Canada.

And this is even when using torrent proxy without the VPN. My guess is some proxy servers is not set up properly. When I picked Canada, the NAT is green. Hurrah. It was RED when I use the randomizer.

This is important enough that should be in a FAQ. I almost canceled the service. Cheers.

Hi, maybe I'm being blind but where do I set the location of the proxy being used? I've currently got my BT client using proxy.torguard.tg

Hey Gianluca - choose a socks5 from the provided IP's under the My Servers page and match it to the same location on VPN.

For some reason I had no problem connecting proxy to a different location than the VPN. I'm not sure if I got lucky or what but I even managed to go through 2 different VPN (1 on router 1 on computer) + socks proxy in utorrent. I confirmed by checking my external ip address on a different computer connected to the router, then on the computer with the vpn client also connected to the router, then through utorrent with the torrent ip checker download from here. All 3 cases showed the expected results. The only issue I had was the vpn running on the computer was stuck at connecting -detecting fake ip... but it turned out to be already connected and working fine. I did use the manual IP for the Swiss server for the proxy though, that may have something to do with it.

you can use any VPN server that supports both vpn and socks5 - if you connect to Canada VPN then to Netherlands socks5 thats fine, as they both support socks5.
