Is it necessary to update WireGuard manually?

Rate this question

Just wondering as I've just installed TG 4.7.2 and it mentions installing WG 0.2.3(might not be exact version, I've forgotten), but when I open up the installed standalone WireGuard program it says there's an update available to 0.3.15. So I'm just wondering if it's a necessary process to check the standalone WG program to update it past what TG updates it to.

Do not upgrade manually anything that is part of TorGuard, but you can upgrade it. To check which version it is, run wg --version, currently I should have quite the latest from master branch:

$ wg --version
wireguard-tools v1.0.20210424 - https://git.zx2c4.com/wireguard-tools/

here is how you could easily update it by script in linux:

upgradeWireguard () {
    # compile manually installed
    if [ -d /opt/wireguard-tools ]; then
        cd /opt/wireguard-tools
        sudo git fetch -f;
        sudo git pull -f;
        cd src && sudo make
        sudo make install
        sudo git clone https://git.zx2c4.com/wireguard-tools /opt/wireguard-tools

I have it as part of my update script and on system update wireguard is installed. If it is not installed, it will be downloaded  and installed. If you want to check out specific version, add git checkout .... after git pull -f, that would be it.
