pfSense OpenVPN DNS Issue

Rate this question

Question

RKCJ

I'm running pfSense version 2.4.4 release p3.

I have followed the instructions as listed here pfSense 2.4.4 OpenVPN

I appear to have a DNS issue. When OpenVPN is trying to establish a connection using the server name "us-nj.secureconnect.me", the OpenVPN logs state "RESOLVE: Cannot resolve host address: us-nj.secureconnect.me:1912 (hostname nor servname provided, or not known)"

If I specify the IP address "23.226.128.210", then the connection is established.

I have changed the DNS servers to:

104.223.91.194

91.121.113.7

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks.

I went through this several years ago. Exact same issue. It drove me crazy. I was told there is a bug that prevents resolution through the tunnel of the domain. That was on the pFsense forums. I just use the ip addresses. I just did an nslookup all online and saved the ip's to a text file. Then I enter the ip in manually. That's what I was told was the workaround.
