Exclude IP address from VPN

Rate this question

Question

kimfoltz

I am running Torguard v 3.96.1 on OpenSuse Leap 15.1. My email provider is Cox Communications and it has decided the Torguard IP address is a security issue and has blacklisted the IP address. I receive IMAP incoming mail with Torguard on but outgoing SMTP is blocked. I have to turn Torguard off to send email. I would like to exclude Cox's email server from the VPN tunnel.

I have seen Forum notes describing changes to the .opvn configuration file that seem like they would do this but I can't find the file. The Torguard folder is at /opt/torguard but I don't see the file.

Can you give me some guidance on how to handle this question?

For anyone who runs into this or a similar problem.

The .opvn configuration files are located in /home/.local/share/VPNetworkLLC/Torguard/configs .

To find the IP numeric address of the name address you are trying to exclude from the VPN tunnel you use a DNS lookup tool. The IP address of smtp.cox.net is 68.1.17.4 .

The following goes at the top of the .opvn configuration file.

allow-pull-fqdn # Allow client to pull DNS names from server (rather than being limited to IP address)
# route destination netmask gatewayy
route smtp.cox.net 68.1.17.4 192.168.0.1
route whatismyip.com 255.255.255.255 192.168.0.1
route torguard.net 255.255.255.255 192.168.0.1
# https://torguard.net/whats-my-ip.php

Thanks,

Hi Kim Foltz,

I am checking in to ask is this still the configuration you use?

I was hoping to see a feature in the TG client but do not think it is in there yet.

Thank you very much for posting the answer to your question.
