3.95.1 client won't complete a connection

Rate this question

Question

I've tried the 3.95.1 client on two different Windows 10 (1809) machines.  On both, Torguuard starts making a connection, but never completes it.  I'm using Protocol UDP,  Cipher BF-CBC, HMAC SHA256, and PFS/TLS Yes/v1.2, with the Atlanta and New York servers.

P.S. - I wish there were a lot more advice on how to choose among the various options.

Hi there - you don't happen to have any security software such as Webroot, do you?

I'm not the originator of this thread, but I have a similar problem.  And I am using Webroot.

Often times TorGuard keeps 'reconnecting' and never connects.  I change servers and sometimes that helps.  Or I'll 'disconnect' and try again and after a couple times of doing this, it connects and all is fine.

I'm using Server - Los Angeles, UDP, AES Cipher, SHA256 HMAC, PFS/TLS is Yes/v1.2

This is only a sporadic problem, other times it connects immediately.

So I guess my question is, is there an issue with Webroot?

Yes, we have seen this on many occasions, we are not sure what webroot is doing, maybe there blocking lists of IP's who knows but after uninstalling Webroot and rebooting -  the problem appears to go away - i would give it a test to isolate your problem.

I am also having a similar problem. The status alternates between "AUTH" and "RECONNECTING" about every second, forever. I have to Disconnect, and try another server, usually around five or so times before finally getting connected. I am not using Webroot, or any other security software, other than standard Windows 10 Defender. This behavior just started around a month ago, it seems. Until then, getting a connection was quick and solid.

Never mind. Reinstalling the latest client seems to have fixed my issue.

Certificates are updated periodically normally through the client once you connect - there was a bug where this didn't happen in the last 2 releases so a reinstall will solve that
