http proxy secure?

Rate this question

Question

chris

I can see there is a definite speed difference when using the HTTP proxy in the chrome extension vs the SSL.  I usually get higher speeds when using the HTTP proxy.  Conventional wisdom on the internet is that always be sure the site you are are on is using HTTPS for better security.  Should the same thinking be applied to using an HTTP proxy.

The HTTP proxy will mask your IP externally but won't encrypt your browsing data locally - you can still use HTTPS within the HTTP proxy
