Application only VPN

Rate this question

Question

Gizmotech

Hey guys,

This might sound a bit strange. I often need to access Japanese only services from my device, but I would like to continue using the proxy service for Chrome USA Netflix.

Is it possible to have Chrome use the dedicated IP VPN, and have the rest of the PC use the regular network?

Hi Gizmo

It is certainly possible - that's a feature we are currently developing for our app, right now you can use a highly configurable firewall such as Comodo which would be your best bet - or something such as https://r1ch.net/projects/forcebindip

Couldn't you just install the Chrome Extension and view US only content that way?

You can do this - it's called split tunneling. I got it to work before, after a lot of back and forth with the support team who were really patient with me.

You can use windows built vpn with your torguard credentials, I think its l2tp/ipsec. When you've added the vpn and the details, you can then specify the route of the app in command prompt, this will set rules whereby you specify that the vpn only be used for certain sites, and the rest of the traffic be regular.

You will need to nslookup the domain, get the ip then look up the CIDR block and use that info to create your route.

It's a bit long winded, but I couldnt find an easier way with an application

Has there been any progress on this? There are many other services out there that seem to offer this as apart of their software package. I would love to see an update on this situation

I've been working on basically the opposite with Windows.  I'm using Wasabi for cloud backup and have found that Torguard has a major impact on the performance.  Also, Citibank (where my Costco credit card is from) does not allow connections that come through Torguard, and presumably through other VPNs as well.  It took me a while to figure that out, but it was confirmed by Citibank support.  Since it's possible to punch a hole through the VPN with a static route, I've been working on a command file (not done yet) that queries the DNS and creates the appropriate static routes.  The idea is to run it automatically when I login to Windows.
