Possible VPN Speed Issue (TPLINK WR1043ND V2) / UK VPN

Hello!

After a couple of years of TorGuard usage, we've upgraded our internet connection to FTTC Fibre, which has a download speed of 72mbps, and running speed tests, we get about 62mbps out of it.

I believe I have configured my router correctly (A TPLINK WR1043ND V2 running the latest beta build of DD-WRT) to use AES-256-CBC with SHA1 hash, however when using a VPN such as the local one in Hampshire, we only get about 6mbps out of it. I just wondered if this was considered normal? Or should I open a support ticket? Or do we need to upgrade our router to a better model?

Thanks,

CrazySofaSurfer

Hello there,

The problem is the router CPU, it’s not powerful enough for OpenVPN, especially AES-266-CBC, i would suggest you try port 80 and AES-128-CBc to see if you get any improvement - it won’t be much though i imagine, i would suggest a better router as your current CPU is only: 720MHz

Regards
